Norwell’s Acella Construction Corp. has been selected to build the new headquarters for Friendship Home, located in Norwell.
The facility will provide respite care and will include office space and an activity center where people with developmental disabilities can participate in day or evening activities. Members of Friendship Home can stay in the residence hall for periods of up to two weeks, giving them a safe and stimulating environment, and providing needed respite for their caregivers.
Friendship Home was begun 10 years ago by Norwell residents Wilma Goodhue and Joan Mullare, both who have adult children with developmental disabilities. The activity center will also serve as a central location for the group’s Friendship Clubs that have about 65 members who meet in Quincy, Duxbury, and Norwell for social activities and community service projects.
Construction of the 14,000-square-foot project is scheduled to begin immediately, and will be completed in the spring of 2010.
The project was designed by David Dunlap of Dunlap & Assoc., located in Norwell.
