Paul Gentile has been named president and CEO of the Massachusetts Credit Union League effective Jan. 6.

Gentile succeeds Daniel Egan, who is retiring after 32 years of service. The appointment of Gentile culminates a nationwide, comprehensive search that included members of the boards from the Massachusetts Credit Union League as well as the New Hampshire Credit Union League and the Credit Union Association of Rhode Island. The Massachusetts Credit Union League has management agreements in place with the New Hampshire Credit Union League and the Credit Union Association of Rhode Island.

"Paul is a proven leader," David Surface, chairman of the Massachusetts Credit Union League and CEO of St. Jean’s Credit Union, said in a statement. "He brings a track record of success in advocacy, communication and product development that will serve our member credit unions well as we strive to meet their changing needs."

Gentile currently serves as executive vice president of strategic communications for the Credit Union National Association (CUNA). While at CUNA, he helped launch a number of new national communication vehicles, including The Cheney Report and Inside Exchange. Prior to CUNA, Gentile was the president and CEO of the New Jersey Credit Union League. Before that, he was the editor and publisher of Credit Union Times, the nation’s largest independent credit union trade publication.
