HaverhillBankHaverhill Bank and the former Economy Cooperative Bank of Merrimac have completed integration of accounts and systems and now operate as one community bank.

The two banks formally merged at the beginning of the year and systems were combined this past weekend. Customers may now conduct their banking activities at any branch.

"There are now seven Haverhill Bank locations for the mutual benefit of residents of both Haverhill and Merrimac," said Haverhill Bank President and CEO Thomas L. Mortimer. "There have always been close ties between these adjoining communities-most notably Whittier Regional Vocational Technical High School where the bank already had a branch. The merger cements another strong association," he said.

Former Economy customers gain access to a larger array of products and services, the convenience of more ATM and electronic banking options and mobile banking. Soon, a new drive up ATM at the Merrimac branch will also be installed. All customers also enjoy additional branch locations, Mortimer said.

The $284 million bank, owned by depositors, is the oldest cooperative bank in Massachusetts. It was founded 135 years ago this year.

A depositor-owned institution, Haverhill Bank was founded in 1877 and is the oldest cooperative bank in Massachusetts, according to a statement.
