Cambridge-based HMFH Architects has announced several local school commissions with a combined area of more than 500,000 square feet.
The architectural firm will help design and analyze several schools including: Carlisle Elementary School, Concord Elementary Schools, Wellesley Middle School, Berlin and Boylston Middle and High Schools, Wayland High School, Hanover High School and Weston High School.
In each commission, HMFH is analyzing existing facilities and making design recommendations for space improvements at each school.
"School districts everywhere are challenged now, more than ever before, with a need to replace aging and inefficient structures to accommodate new models of engaged teaching and learning in sustainable environments and efficient buildings. And while funding is shrinking, investment in energy efficient, green buildings is ever more critical," said George Metzger, AIA, president of HMFH Architects. "Our mission as architects is to engage the best citizens in each school community, listen carefully both to the conventional wisdom and the new ideas, and find creative and cost-effective solutions for the best possible educational environments."
HMFH will also work with Newport Elementary School in Newport, R.I., and Concord Elementary Schools in Concord, N.H.
