The 52 Bay State Ave. condominium project in Somerville’s Ball Square, developed by Weston-based GFC Development Corp., has been selected by the Somerville Historic Preservation Commission to receive an "Honorable Mention" during its annual 2009 awards ceremony.

The honorable mention category recognizes owners who have shown a strong commitment to preserving the distinctive architectural character of their buildings, the company said.

GFC was selected as one of only two historic property owners in Somerville to receive the award.

"Converting 52 Bay State Ave., built in 1905, into a luxury condominium was a challenge, but one we took great pride in," said Charles Aggouras, president of GFC Development Corp. "While we championed the use of modern fixtures and interior designs to create a luxurious space, our exterior renovations were focused on maintaining the aesthetics of a traditional Somerville neighborhood."
