A historic former Roxbury hotel eyed for redevelopment for nearly three decades is seeking a new owner to move a condominium project forward.

Cushman & Wakefield is marketing the Hotel Alexandra site at the corner of Massachusetts Avenue and Washington Street,

The property is approved for a 13-story, 70-unit condominium building on the hotel property and an adjacent lot.

The designs by CBT Architects would retain and restore the sandstone facade of the 1875 hotel building, while demolishing the rest of the dilapidated structure.

In 2019, Alexandra Partners closed on the $11 million purchase of the site, shortly after it received final approval from the Boston Zoning Board of Appeal for a 150-room hotel.

But after the COVID-19 pandemic disrupted the hotel industry, developers returned to city officials in 2021 with a new proposal for residential condominiums.

Webster Five provided $10 million in financing in July 2021, according to a Suffolk County mortgage.

The property is being offered without an asking price, according to the Cushman & Wakefield listing, which presents the site as offering a “once in a lifetime opportunity to develop a legacy project” at the high-visibility location.

An earlier attempt to redevelop the property as residential condominiums failed in 2006 due to lack of financing.

Financing difficulties have delayed groundbreakings of several major multifamily developments in Boston, including the 344-unit Allston Square project, amid the higher interest rate and construction cost environment.

An auction is scheduled on Aug. 16 for the 344-unit Residences at Readville Station project at 1717 Hyde Park Ave.
