Massachusetts Live! Casino renderingResidents of Leominster have voted in favor of the proposed $200 million Massachusetts Live! Casino project proposed by developer the Cordish Cos.

Located on Jungle Road off Interstate 190, the Massachusetts Live! Casino would be a $200-plus million casino and entertainment complex, with 1,250 slot machines and electronic table games, national and local restaurants and a live entertainment venue.

Leominster residents voted 5,235 to 3,306, a 61.3 percent margin, to approve the plan, according to the Sentinel & Enterprise.

The Maryland-based real estate development firm will now move forward to submit its application to the Massachusetts Gaming Commission for the sole Category 2 gaming license in the state on Oct. 4.

"The Cordish Cos. have a long-standing history of developing and operating best-in-class gaming and entertainment destinations across the country," Joe Weinberg, managing partner for Cordish, said in a statement. "We look forward to working with Mayor Dean Mazzarella and the whole community to create a true regional destination, which will generate more than 1,200 new jobs and contribute tens of millions of dollars in local and state tax revenue each year."

The project is expected to generate more than $1 billion in local and state tax revenue over its first 10 years of operation.

The Cordish Cos. also owns and operates Maryland Live! Casino in the Baltimore-Washington, D.C. corridor, which is currently the largest commercial casino in the country, and the highest grossing casino in the mid-Atlantic gaming market.
