Lesley University is the latest local higher ed institution tapping into its real estate assets for financial gain, listing a cluster of parcels between Harvard and Porter Squares in Cambridge for sale.

The 10 buildings between span nearly 85,000 square feet and are used as administrative offices and housing. The portfolio provides redevelopment and ground-up construction opportunities according to Cushman & Wakefield ,which is representing the college.

The portfolio includes 1627 Massachusetts Ave., five properties at 7, 9, 11, 13 and 17-21 Mellen St., a dorm at 6 Sacramento St. and an office building and parking lot 815 Somerville Ave.

The properties will be offered as a single portfolio, individual properties or a combination, according to Cushman & Wakefield.

“Institutionally owned and maintained, this portfolio presents immense value-add potential through the lease-up of vacant commercial space, the potential redevelopment to multi-family residential and condominium conversions and the potential for new ground-up residential construction, among other options and strategies,” Executive Managing Director Christopher Sower said in a statement.

Simmons University is tapping into development demand in Boston’s Fenway in a partnership with Skanska adding commercial space and housing to its residential campus. The college is seeking approval for a 1.75 million redevelopment of the dormitory and athletic facilities on Brookline Avenue, and relocating them to a new 21-story tower on its nearby academic campus.
