Special Olympics Massachusetts President and CEO Robert Johnson; Middlesex Savings Bank Senior Vice President Dana Neshe; John Heerwagen, president and CEO, Middlesex Savings Bank; and Geoffrey Nothnagle, board chair, Special Olympics Massachusetts. Natick-based Middlesex Savings Bank has donated $25,000 to the Special Olympics Massachusetts (SOMA) Capital Campaign, which is headquartered in Marlborough’s Yawkey Sports Training Center.

The bank decided to make the donation after company executives paid a visit to the Yawkey Sports Training Center. They were impressed with the training facilities housed within the building and the health programming, according to a statement.

"At Middlesex Savings Bank, we seek to provide more than just outstanding products and excellent service for all of our customers; we also look for opportunities to help worthy nonprofit organizations which have a real impact on the community," said Middlesex Savings Bank Senior Vice President Dana Neshe. "We are proud to be able to support organizations like SOMA who work diligently to provide a better way of life for individuals with intellectual disabilities."

The donation will go toward providing staff, coach and volunteer trainings at the Yawkey Sports Training Center, according to a statement. It will also help fund training sessions for athletes and healthy athlete initiatives such as Med Student Education and athlete screenings like Medfest.

"We are grateful for support and generous donations made by organizations like Middlesex Savings Bank which help us provide better sports training and health programs to the 12,000 athletes across the commonwealth," said SOMA President and CEO Robert Johnson. "Through sports, our organization is able to assist those with intellectual disabilities live healthier lives and become productive members of society."
