Middlesex Savings Bank’s charitable foundation has donated $520,000 to 52 local police and fire departments.
First responders were surprised to learn of the $10,000 gift when they received calls from their local Middlesex Savings Bank branch managers, according to a statement from the bank.
The Middlesex Savings Charitable Foundation has made proactive financial gifts to service organizations in the past. In 2019, the foundation granted a cumulative gift of over $1.4 million to 84 food pantries, libraries and senior centers/councils on aging in each of its twenty-five branch towns. In 2018, Middlesex gifted $1.2 million to the education foundations in its branch towns.
“Middlesex Savings Bank’s gift to our local first responders is given as a gesture of gratitude and recognition for all that they do to keep our communities safe,” Mike McAuliffe, president and CEO of Middlesex Savings Bank, said in a statement. “We saw that firsthand last summer when several local police and fire departments responded to the downtown Natick fire across the street from our branch. As a 185-year old community bank, supporting the organizations that care for our customers and neighbors is a vital part of our heritage.”
Recipients include the police and fire departments located in Acton, Ashland, Bedford, Bellingham, Boxborough, Concord, Framingham, Franklin, Groton, Holliston, Hopkinton, Littleton, Maynard, Medfield, Medway, Millis, Natick, Needham, Sherborn, Southborough, Sudbury, Walpole, Wayland, Wellesley, Westborough and Westford.
The Middlesex Savings Charitable Foundation was established in 2000 to further carry out the philanthropic mission of Middlesex Savings Bank. It has provided more than $10 million in grants to local nonprofit organizations, supporting services and programs in a wide variety of fields, including education, public health and welfare, the arts, and community development. Since the inception of the Foundation, Middlesex Savings Bank has funded the endowment with over $19 million in contributions.
