The Middlesex Savings Charitable Foundation recently awarded a total of $34,000 in scholarship to recent high school graduates.
Twenty-eight $1,000 scholarships were granted and one award in the amount of $5,000 was made to Melanie F. Josselyn, of Natick. She was awarded the 2011 A. James Lavoie Scholarship, which will help support her when she attends UMass-Amherst this fall.
A graduate of Joseph P. Keefe Technical High School in Framingham, Josselyn was selected by an independent committee for her essay describing how her mother Denise’s battle to recover from a severe cerebral aneurysm inspired her to pursue a career in psychology and neuroscience research, according to a statement.
"We’re pleased to award this year’s A. James Lavoie Scholarship to Melanie Josselyn," said Dana Neshe, president, Middlesex Savings Charitable Foundation. "Her personal and academic achievements demonstrate remarkable perseverance. We wish her all the best at UMass-Amherst."
