Middlesex Savings Bank will continue its expansion into Central Massachusetts with a new branch in Westborough.

The branch at 65 East Main St. was previously the site of Sunshine Liquors and a donut shop. Owned by Vakili Real Estate Management LLC, the building has 3,000 square feet and was constructed in 1989.

The long-term land lease transaction was completed by Metrowest Commercial Real Estate’s senior associate broker, Marlene Aron, and sales associate and agency marketing director, Cheryl Tully Stoll, the agency said in a statement.

Aron and Tully Stoll represented Mohammad Vakili, who previously operated the liquor store and donut shop in the building. Vakili plans to reopen his liquor store in Westborough once an appropriate location is found, according to the statement.

“This transaction secures a strong long-term tenant for the owner,” Tully Stoll said. “The site was perfect for a bank branch because it already had a permitted drive-through window, excellent parking, great signage potential and is in a high-traffic area.”

A mid-January opening is planned for the new branch.

The $5.6 billion-asset Middlesex Savings Bank, which has more than 30 branches, opened a new location in Hudson last summer and also has branches in nearby Southborough and Hopkinton.
