The Milford Federal Savings & Loan Association has awarded $10,000 in scholarships to 10 local high school graduates to assist in furthering their education.

"Milford Federal has for many years supported the higher education pursuits of young adults in our community," said Cynthia A. Casey, president and CEO. "These students are our future business leaders and we all want them to succeed."

Each student was selected by their school’s scholarship committee based on need, academic standing and involvement in school and outside activities, according to a statement.

The following were each awarded a $1,000 college scholarship:

  • Baljinder Singh of Blackstone Valley Regional Vocational Technical High School, attending the University of Massachusetts-Lowell
  • Tyler Pietras of Douglas High School, attending Wheelock College in Boston
  • Katherine Englund of Hopedale High School, attending Quinnipiac University in Hamden, Conn.
  • Heather Annis of Milford High School, attending the University of Massachusetts-Amherst
  • Norbert Mongeon of Mount Saint Charles Academy
  • Megan Mattox of Nipmuc Regional High School, attending Emmanuel College in Boston
  • Lauren Gallant of Northbridge High School, attending Bridgewater State University
  • Matthew Bell of Uxbridge High School, attending Springfield College
  • Ashley Shannon of Whitinsville Christian School, attending Anderson University in South Carolina
  • Emily Chase of Woonsocket High School
