In the latest example of how transit upgrades are turning Allston into a development magnet, owners of a commercial building near the MBTA’s Boston Landing station are seeking approval for a large mixed-use project including 400,000 square feet of commercial space.
Bracken Development LLC is partnering with the owners of the 1.8-acre property on a proposed redevelopment including 95 housing units and a mix of office and artist maker spaces.
The site at 93-129 Braintree St. and 95 Everett St. includes a 134,000-square-foot office building that contained the headquarters of Arthur Blank & Co. until 1987, and was later converted into multitenant space including artists’ studios. The two-building project will include “significant affordable housing in excess” of Boston’s housing policy that requires new projects include at least 13 percent income-restricted units, developers said in a press release.
The breakdown of commercial uses was not available this week, but developers said the project will include “much-needed workspace for the local artist community.”
In a notification letter to the Boston Planning & Development Agency, Marblehead-based Bracken Development said the project will include a 12-story commercial building on Braintree Street and a 6-story residential building on Everett Street.
The property bordering the Massachusetts Turnpike is just east of Stop & Shop Supermarket Co.’s 11-acre Everett Street property, which was approved in December for 868 multifamily units and a 373,500-square-foot office-lab building.
Other developments under BPDA review in the neighborhood include a proposed 147-unit apartment building at 35-43 Braintree St. by Mount Vernon Co. and 166 multifamily units at 449 Braintree St. by Anchor Line Partners.
