The insurance division of North Adams-based MountainOne Bank has acquired Pittsfield-based Cross Insurance.

MountainOne Insurance Agency is now the largest agency headquartered in the Berkshires in terms of clients under management, according to a statement last week from MountainOne.

The company said it plans to keep the Cross Insurance staff, and the insurance agency now has 50 employees and six locations in Berkshire County.

“The acquisition of Cross Insurance in Pittsfield furthers MountainOne’s commitment to the communities we serve,” Jonathan Denmark, MountainOne Insurance Agency’s president and chief operating officer, said in the statement. “The combined agency will now be able to offer products and solutions from an expanded roster of insurance companies.”

MountainOne Insurance Agency offers property and casualty insurance services for individuals and businesses, surety bonding, employee benefits and life insurance, and Medicare solutions.

Cross Insurance had formed in 2016 when it purchased two other Pittsfield companies: Bardwell, Bowlby & Karam Insurance Agency and Colt Insurance Agency.

“While the name will change to MountainOne Insurance, the location will remain at 101 South Street in Pittsfield,” Denmark said. “We are thrilled to be expanding our presence into downtown Pittsfield and will carry on the traditions of excellence that Cross and the prior agencies were known for.”

MountainOne Bank was founded in 1848, and MountainOne Insurance dates to 1867. In addition to locations in Berkshire County, the $877 million-asset MountainOne Bank has branches in Quincy, Rockland and Scituate, and MountainOne Insurance has an office in Rockland.
