Mutual Bank has acquired the landmark Saftler property located at 342 Bedford St. in Whitman.

CEO Glen S. White said that the bank’s management team and board of directors will study the best possible use of the property, which could possibly include a Mutual Bank presence on the site.

"Route 18 is a high traffic area with considerable commercial activity which makes it a choice business location," he said.

He did not offer a timetable for a final decision regarding the property but added, "as a bank that has been headquartered in Whitman for more than 120 years, we are committed to this town. Regardless of what final plans we develop for the Bedford Street property, our main office at 570 Washington St. will continue to be available to serve our many customers who visit this location."
