Attleboro’s NationsHeritage Federal Credit Union has received the regulatory green light to merge with and into HarborOne Credit Union of Brockton, New England’s largest state-chartered community credit union.
The move, to be completed in August, will add NationsHeritage’s $86 million in assets to HarborOne, and re-brand its three branch locations under the HarborOne name. Until August, members of both credit unions are instructed to continue to use their respective branches as normal. The union has received the blessing of the Massachusetts Division of Banks and the National Credit Union Administration. Members of both institutions have also approved the merger.
James W. Blake, HarborOne president and CEO, called the merger "a natural and complementary extension of our market area."
Maureen G. Tebo, President and CEO of NationsHeritage, offered assurances that NationsHeritage employees would stay on as HarborOne employees after the merger.
"We hope to ultimately provide enhanced growth opportunities for our employees as we become part of a much larger organization," she said.
NationsHeritage membership is available to anyone who lives, works, attends school or worships in Seekonk, Rehoboth, Attleboro, North Attleboro, Norton, Mansfield, Foxborough, Wrentham or Plainville. HarborOne membership is available to those that live or work in Bristol, Norfolk, Plymouth and Barnstable counties.
HarborOne currently has 15 branches and $1.8 billion in assets.
