Holyoke-based PeoplesBank has donated $80,000 to replant trees in five communities impacted by the recent tornadoes.
"As we turn from recovery to rebuilding, our environment will also need help to recuperate," said Douglas A. Bowen, president and CEO, PeoplesBank. "Replanting trees, as we repair our homes and reopen our businesses, will be another sign of our perseverance and resurgence as a community."
The bank’s re-greening efforts include:
- Springfield: City officials have designated three areas for replanting using the donated funds of $40,000: the Sixteen Acres/Parker Street area, Roosevelt Avenue in East Forest Park and the Old Hill neighborhood.
- West Springfield: The bank will donate $15,000 to target the Union Street area for re-greening.
- Wilbraham: $10,000 of the re-greening funds will be used to plant trees on Main Street and Tinkham Road.
- Monson: Town officials and the bank are targeting the Main Street area for replanting with its $10,000 donation.
- Westfield: PeoplesBank will provide the town with $5,000 for trees at the Munger Hill School.
