The Randolph Automotive Servicenter, located at 1245 North Main St. in Randolph, opened for business yesterday after several months of redevelopment and expansion.

The family-owned and -operated business used a $2.5 million loan to upgrade its service garage to six bays with 3,740 square feet of operating space, along with an attached office and customer reception building, during the first phase of construction over the summer. The recently completed second phase of the project saw a new 2,880-square-foot convenience store and gas station go up adjacent to the garage.

“It was well worth the wait,” said General Manager Alexandra Alexopoulos, whose husband Bill runs the garage and whose father-in-law Chris founded the business in the mid-1950s. “The transformation is just amazing.”

The new convenience store features a drive-through accessible, independent Dunkin Donuts location, whose operator decided to lease space within the Alexopoulos’ development and relocate from a neighboring property.

Alexopoulos said the reopening went well but for a few “growing pains” with the new technology. Profits from cigarettes and lottery came in at double those of the old store, she said.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony is planned for the afternoon of Wednesday, Nov. 18, during which local businesses are encouraged to peruse the new location as a possible go-to service center for company vehicles.

Phase one of the development was completed by Joy Construction Co. of Randolph, while the store and gas station were put up by South Coast Development of Harvard. The construction loan was acquired through the commercial lending team at Randolph Savings Bank.
