A 1.6-acre East Boston property where a 9-alarm fire destroyed a casket factory two years ago is Boston-based Redgate’s latest venture into the neighborhood’s multifamily development scene.
Redgate intends to propose 221 multifamily units in a pair of 6-story buildings at 1141 Bennington St., formerly the home of the New England Casket Co., according to a notification with the Boston Planning & Development Agency submitted by attorney Bryan Connolly of DLA Piper.
Redgate bought the property located between the Orient Heights neighborhood and Belle Isle Marsh, for $8 million in December 2020.
The developer also has a 230-unit multifamily building under construction at 144 Addison St. in East Boston and is seeking approval for a 180-unit apartment building at 355 Bennington St.
