Salem State University recently broke ground on a new $60 million library for the school.
Quincy’s Lee Kennedy Co. will demolish the existing library before constructing the new 122,000-square-foot facility, according to a statement. It is designed to achieve LEED Silver certification and will include archival space, circulation and reference areas, collections, reading spaces, study rooms, instruction labs and a dean’s suite.
"I am pleased to work with Lee Kennedy Co. again," said Patricia Maguire Meservey, president, Salem State University. "I have great confidence that this will be a wonderful process as we move forward in construction."
The library is scheduled to be completed in about two years for occupancy in early 2013.
