Maxwell’s Green, a $52.5 million residential development outside of Somerville’s Davis Square, is set to break ground this spring.
Formerly known as the MaxPac project, the 5.5-acre transit-oriented Maxwell’s Green development will feature 199 LEED certified and certifiable units, according to Davis Square Partners, the development team. The residential development will include 25 units of affordable housing, along with studio, one-, two- and three-bedroom units and 15 town homes. It will also include a yoga studio, weight room, chef’s kitchen, club room, wireless work space, theater room, additional green space and a new addition to the Somerville Community Path.
"This project took many years to come together and it is the result of extensive community involvement," said Somerville Mayor Joseph Curtatone. "When they break ground for Maxwell’s Green it will officially start an era of transit-oriented development in Somerville. Projects like this allow us to fix the broken links in our neighborhoods and they generate more activity for the businesses in our city squares."
Davis Square Partners has said it will use local Somerville residents as well as union labor on the development, which is located on a former Brownfield site that once housed manufacturing buildings including the International Paper Co., according to a statement. The project is expected to create several hundred jobs over the course of the 20-month construction period.
