Southbridge Savings Bank has been assessed a $4,000 penalty from the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection (MassDEP) for violating waste site cleanup regulations at a residential property the bank owns in Charlton.

The bank failed to notify MassDEP within 72 hours after knowing that a release of oil above reportable concentrations and within 500 feet of a private well had occurred at the Charlton property, according to a statement.
