Three affordable rental projects in Boston’s Jamaica Plain and Roxbury neighborhoods got a $3 million boost in the arm, the mayor’s office announced today.

The stalled development projects – Blessed Sacrament and 270 Centre St. in Jamaica Plain, and Kassanof Bakery in Roxbury – got $3 million in American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) funds, which the city said will leverage more than $20 million from HUD’s new Tax Credit Assistance Program (TCAP).

"It is important that we use every resource available to build more rental housing for working families in our city," Mayor Thomas M. Menino said in a press release. "This funding will not only provide housing for families it will also help put our residents back to work."

The city said the three projects have more than 100 affordable rental units, and roughly 37 will be reserved "for very low-income families and households transitioning from homelessness."

The developments would support more than 600 constructions jobs in Boston, the mayor said, and each project includes the creation of new commercial space.
