The $120 million acquisition of a Framingham office building is a sign of TJX Cos.’ long-term plans to grow in its MetroWest home base.

The parent of discount retail plans to renovate the 450,000-square-foot 550 Cochituate Road building for a “dynamic” work environment, expanding near its existing 770 Cochituate Road east campus headquarters. The seller was Meditech, which has owned the property for 24 years. Bisnow first reported the sale Monday.

“We believe that this building, along with our other East campus buildings in Framingham and our West campus buildings in Marlborough, should help support our business needs for many years to come,” TJX Cos. said in a statement provided to Banker & Tradesman.

TJX Cos. operates more than 4,400 stores worldwide including the T.J. Maxx, Marshalls and HomeGoods brands. The company reported second-quarter sales of $9.8 billion, up 5 percent.
