A real estate executive who’s overseen the largest office development on Route 128 is joining Trammell Crow Co. to oversee its Boston-area operations.

The Dallas-based developer named Sam Schaefer as senior vice president and business unit leader for its Boston office, overseeing the company’s local development and acquisitions.

As CEO of Waltham-based Hobbs Brook Real Estate since 2019, Schaefer  redevelopment of 225 Wyman St. in Waltham into a 507,000-square-foot office and lab building that’s scheduled for completion in 2022. In July, Cambridge-based Pegasystems leased 131,000 square feet at 225 Wyman St.  as it shifts to a multi-office real estate strategy.

At Trammell Crow, Schaefer will build a multi-product business including office, multifamily, life science and industrial properties, the company announced. In late October, Lexington officials approved Trammell Crow’s redevelopment of the Quality Inn and Suites hotel at 440 Bedford St. for a 335,000-square-foot office-lab building.

Trammell Crow opened its Boston office in 2019 and selected former Skanska executive Charlie Leatherbee to head its local operations. Leatherbee recently was named president of Suffolk Capital, the real estate investment arm of Boston-based construction giant Suffolk.

At Hobbs Brook Real Estate, Schaefer oversaw a 7 million-square-foot portfolio and 275 employees.
