MassDevelopment and the Massachusetts Cultural Council have provided a $32,394 Cultural Facilities Fund grant for the USS Constitution Museum at the Charlestown Navy Yard.

The museum is using grant funds to upgrade the HVAC system, replace the courtyard doors and renovate the museum store.

"Cultural Facilities Fund grants take care of the necessary but not always glamorous aspects of running the commonwealth’s cultural treasures," MassDevelopment President and CEO Marty Jones said in a statement. "This grant will help the USS Constitution Museum preserve and share Old Ironsides’ story for generations to come."

The USS Constitution Museum, located on the Freedom Trail, is free of charge under an admission-by-donation policy. The museum features award-winning exhibits, hands-on history programs and family focused events for visitors of all ages. The nonprofit museum serves as the memory and educational voice for "Old Ironsides." Launched in 1797, the USS Constitution is the oldest commissioned warship afloat in the world and America’s Ship of State.

MassDevelopment and the Massachusetts Cultural Council administer the Cultural Facilities Fund, an initiative of the commonwealth to increase public and private investment in cultural facilities throughout the state.
