The YMCA of Greater Boston has received a $10 million MassDevelopment bond, purchased by Citizens Bank, to upgrade branches in Boston and West Roxbury.
The YMCA will use the funds to renovate and repair the parapet and roof of the Boston branch on Huntington Avenue. The West Roxbury location will use the proceeds to purchase and renovate the building at 1980 Centre St., which YMCA West Roxbury currently leases. It will also receive new locker rooms, HVAC, plumbing and electrical systems; a 38-space parking lot; and a new building to house an aquatics center, health and wellness center and office space.
“For more than a century, the YMCA of Greater Boston has been a leading provider of health, wellness and civic engagement programs in the region,” MassDevelopment President and CEO Marty Jones said in a statement. “MassDevelopment is pleased to assist the YMCA as the organization continues to upgrade and modernize its proud and long-standing facilities to better serve the community.”
The project is expected to create 50 jobs and support 119 construction jobs.
