Bank of New York Mellon Corp. said it’s laying off 103 people from its Pawtucket, R.I., office as it moves an office to Massachusetts.

A spokeswoman for the Rhode Island Department of Labor and Training said the bank will close the office in October when it moves to Westborough.

Bank spokesman Joe Ailinger said the 300 employees were given the chance to relocate, and about 200 chose to do so. The others will get a severance package.

He said the bank’s Rhode Island lease was expiring, and it had adequate space available in the Massachusetts office, so it chose not to renew the lease. He said 900 people already work in the Massachusetts office. (AP)
