Paula Pais has been named first vice president and chief of staff of Michigan-based Flagstar Bank’s recently launched New England commercial banking division.

In her new role, Pais is responsible for strategic planning in the commercial banking division, according to a statement. Other responsibilities include managing the sales process, developing sales goals as well as objectives, creating divisional budgets and preparing financial forecasts. She will also manage all office functions for the New England region and oversees its community outreach and marketing initiatives.

"I’m delighted to team up once again with Paula," said Steve Issa, executive vice president and managing director. "I look forward to working with her to build a successful commercial/specialty organization for Flagstar."

Pais previously served as vice president of planning and administration at Sovereign Bank, now Santander.

Flagstar is looking into several office locations for its New England division, including in Foxborough and Boston, according to a statement. Flagstar has signed a lease at 40 Westminster St. in Providence, R.I.
