Bristol County Savings Bank’s charitable foundation has awarded grants totaling $47,460 to six New Bedford area nonprofit organizations.
The grant amounts are as follows: The Immigrants’ Assistance Center Inc. ($4,000); YWCA Southeastern Massachusetts ($3,000); Good Sports Inc. ($5,000); the Old Dartmouth Historical Society-New Bedford Whaling Museum ($5,460); Projects Manager of Shore Support ($10,000); and Our Sister’s School ($20,000).
The foundation presented the awards at the groundbreaking of its 11th banking office and first in New Bedford. In addition, $7,500 was awarded to the Dartmouth Friends of the Elderly for the restoration of its wellness center, according to a statement.
Since 2007, the Bristol County Savings Charitable Foundation has donated approximately $200,000 to 18 different organizations in the South Coast. The foundation was established in 1996 as part of the bank’s 150th anniversary celebration, according to a statement.
Bristol County Savings Bank’s new 3,500-square-foot branch has a modern, wood clapboard exterior similar to the look of the bank’s Dartmouth office. The new branch will have two drive-through lanes, a drive-through ATM, a café, a coin machine and an exterior standing clock. The branch, which will open mid-year, is expected to bring more than 200 construction jobs to the New Bedford area and create approximately eight permanent positions.
