Life science developer IQHQ Inc. said it will help a Brighton music rehearsal space find a new home as it seeks approval for three new lab buildings on the North Beacon Street property.

The Sound Museum occupies a portion of the existing building, which was acquired by IQHQ for $50 million in July. The studio advertises Boston’s most affordable rehearsal spaces, renting for as low as $40 and available on a 24/7 basis.

The 40,000-square-foot studio, owned by engineer William “Des” Desmond, has been used by hundreds of local musicians including the Dropkick Murphys and Letters to Cleo.

IQHQ said today has hired a broker and architect to find a new location for rehearsal and performance space and two new recording studios, and is scouting several sites in Boston. The Sound Museum has occupied the building near Boston Landing for 32 years.

Boston Mayor Michelle Wu unveiled strategies to prevent displacement of arts and culture venues in her campaign. She proposed updating the Boston zoning code with requirements for rehearsal and studio space in new developments.

IQHQ is proposing a 410,000-square-foot life science campus on the property.
