Fall River-based Mechanics Cooperative Bank is donating $300,000 to the new Southcoast Centers for Cancer Care in Fairhaven.
The cancer center will bring together state-of-the-art therapy and high quality care for Southcoast cancer patients and their families, according to a statement. The new outpatient facility is scheduled to open in April.
"Residents will now have the opportunity to receive quality treatment at a local facility, close to home, and close to their families," said Joseph T. Baptista Jr., president and CEO of Mechanics Cooperative Bank. "Mechanics Cooperative Bank is proud to support our local community and our local families, and will continue to support quality community organizations like Southcoast Hospitals Group."
"We are extremely grateful to Mechanics Cooperative Bank for the donation of $300,000 for our new Cancer Center, especially because it marks such an important milestone in the bank’s history as the largest single gift," said Keith A. Hovan, president of Southcoast Health System and president and CEO of Southcoast Hospitals Group. "Like Southcoast, Mechanics Cooperative Bank has served the communities of Southeastern Massachusetts for more than a century ensuring that the vitality and well-being of our communities is at the forefront of their ongoing commitment."
