General Electric’s new Boston headquarters will be a catalyst for developing industrial Internet applications and expanding the growing tech cluster Seaport District, executives said today as ground was broken on its new 2.4-acre urban campus, dubbed “Innovation Point.”

General Electric will pay rent to MassDevelopment on two industrial buildings that it plans to renovate in Boston’s Fort Point, after acquiring the property from Procter & Gamble and selling it to the state agency for an as-yet undisclosed price.
